1. Permit required. No person shall erect, construct, alter, extend, repair, remove, demolish, use, or occupy any building, structure, or equipment regulated by this Building Code, or cause the same to be done without obtaining a required permit.
2. Separate permit per operation. A separate permit is required to commence or proceed with each operation described below:
   1. General Construction
      To construct, add to, alter, or repair a structure, including activities installing electrical wiring and devices, heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems and equipment, all types of plumbing and sewer systems and fixtures, and the installation of fire protection systems and alarms or communications systems.
   2. Site Work
      To grade, pave, excavate, fill, and final site grade a premises.
   3. Demolition
      To raze or demolish a building or structure or part of a building or structure.
   4. Sign
      To erect, repair, alter, reface, or energize a sign or billboard.
   5. Residing
      To reside a structure, except for a liquid coating, including the grounding and bonding of metallic siding.
   6. Retaining Wall
      To erect a retaining wall that at any point is over three feet high above adjacent grade.
   7. Tent
      To erect a tent that exceeds 400 square feet of ground surface area.
   8. Fence
      To erect a fence over eight feet high.
   9. Fire System
      To install a fire alarm, detection, communication, or suppression system.
   10. Communication
       To install communication system, including a telephone, telecommunication, data, music, signaling, paging, or intercom system, except a security system.
   11. Storage Tank
       To install, alter, or remove a storage tank.
   12. Swimming Pool
       To install a swimming pool and required fencing.
   13. Elevation Change
       To change the elevation of a building or structure.
   14. Public Right-of-way Structure
       To construct, add to, alter, or repair a structure in, under, or over the public right-of-way.
   15. Miscellaneous Equipment
       To erect, install, or alter equipment or a device such as a solar collector, power generator, or satellite antenna.
3. Exceptions. Permits are not required for:
   1. To erect a one- or two-family residential, non habitable storage building less than 100 square feet.
   2. To erect a swimming pool that is less than 250 square feet and not more than two feet in depth.
