The Demolition & Site Improvement staff contracts,
inspects and generally oversees the clearance of over 325 vacant, deteriorated houses,
garages, and commercial buildings per year through the following City of Akron demolition
programs:
Waiver Demolition Program (Waiver Information Flyer -156k pdf), Housing Appeals
Board, Community Development Program, Land Banking and Reutilization, Federal, State and
City Highway Construction Projects, JEDD Projects, Economic Development Programs and other
City of Akron projects.
| In addition to overseeing the
demolition, the Development Division cooperates with the Akron Fire/EMS & Police
Departments to coordinate the use of structures to be razed for valuable real-life
training exercises for these public safety departments. |
Akron Fire Ladder 8 & Engine 8 personnel prepare for
training on N Forge Street prior to structures being razed.

The property management staff is assisted in the summer
months by temporary laborers to provide maintenance & mowing services of city owned
land in various, Community Development, Urban Renewal, and Land Banking areas.
