Demolition Site – 437 Perkins Street

The Demolition & Site Improvement staff contracts, inspects and generally oversees the clearance of over 325 vacant, deteriorated houses, garages, and commercial buildings per year through the following City of Akron demolition programs:

Waiver Demolition Program (Waiver Information Flyer -156k pdf), Housing Appeals Board, Community Development Program, Land Banking and Reutilization, Federal, State and City Highway Construction Projects, JEDD Projects, Economic Development Programs and other City of Akron projects.

In addition to overseeing the demolition, the Development Division cooperates with the Akron Fire/EMS & Police Departments to coordinate the use of structures to be razed for valuable real-life training exercises for these public safety departments.

The property management staff is assisted in the summer months by temporary laborers to provide maintenance & mowing services of city owned land in various, Community Development, Urban Renewal, and Land Banking areas.
