Residential New Construction

The Planning Department annually inventories construction of new housing based on building permits issued. Since 1990, these data show a steady investment in new housing, in terms of the number of units built and the estimated value.

A total of 4,622 new residential units have been built in Akron since 1990. Over 200 single and two family homes have been built every year since 1994, with 298 homes built in the peak year (1995). Condominium and apartment construction has diminished somewhat since the peak year 1995. Never the less, almost $66 million has been invested in these units over the past 12 years.

The attached table (23k pdf) summarizes residential new construction activities since 1990, including changes in number of units, the total estimated value buildings and the average per unit value from year to year.
