(11/11/09) - Akron residents have an easier
path to locating the citys financial records - from their home or office computer,
any time of the day or night.Mayor Don Plusquellic today announced the creation of a
new web page, "Open Books Online," a living and evolving archive of Akrons
financial records - the citys "books," and its principal finance reports.
"Our financial records have always been open to the public," said the Mayor,
"and a number of reports have been available at the libraries and on the internet for
several years. But now, we have assembled them in a way that makes it even easier for
every resident and taxpayer to see our income and expenses."
Internet users can go to www.ci.akron.oh.us/finance
to have access to annual, quarterly, and monthly data on the two most important financial
issues: what the municipal government takes in and what it spends. There is even a link to
daily financial reports issued by the Finance Department.
Finance Director Diane Miller-Dawson said, "We corralled all of the information
that was already out there and added the daily income tax report and the daily
all-taxes report to provide a comprehensive, new look."
Mayor Plusquellic added, "We want this to make the process simpler and helpful to
residents in making informed decisions and, at the same time, show we are transparent with
nothing to conceal."
