Taste of Akron adds Finest Cut Steak Cook-off

(05/18/09) - The Taste of Akron has added a steak grilling competition to heat things up this summer. The Finest Cut is a steak grilling competition that celebrates the Taste of Akron with backyard chefs. Finalists will compete in a live cook-off during the Taste of Akron on July 23, 2009 at Hardesty Park.

The Finest Cut is deliciously sponsored by West Point Market. Chief Executive Officer, Rick Vernon says, "The versatility of a great cut of steak will be the focus…the sky is the limit for creative recipes."

Contestants must enter their recipes for consideration by June 25, 2009. Based on submitted recipes, eight finalists will be selected based on originality and creativity. The competition will be taste tested by a panel of judges – real judges from the Summit County court system.

Finalists will be competing for up to $1,000 in prizes. The Grand Prize winning entry will receive a $500 gift certificate from West Point Market. Second – fourth place finishers will receive gift certificates for $250, $150 and $100 respectively.

Finalists will have two hours to complete their steak recipe during the Taste of Akron. Plated steaks may be sliced, chopped, or presented whole and may be on the plate’s surface or between bakery products. All competition steaks, grills, charcoal and presentation plates will be provided by West Point Market.

West Point Market has been an Akron landmark for more than 70 years and is guided by Vernon, along with President, Larry Uhl. Both continue to steer the company’s growth and ensure West Point Market’s commitment to excellent customer service. West Point Market has always been and will remain "A Market Like No Other."

The Taste of Akron features more than 25 of the areas best classic and ethnic restaurants offering food samples for $2, $4, & $6. As patrons enjoy the varied food samplings, they can dance to the classic sounds of the 50’s and 60’s from Remember When.
