(03/24/09) - The City of Akron, Water
Distribution Division will be conducting a water main flushing program within the Akron,
Bath, Coventry, Fairlawn, Hudson, Mogadore, Montrose, and other water retail service areas
to help maintain the water quality and to increase and evaluate the amount of water
available for fire fighting purposes. The Water Department will be flowing hydrants from
10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. on Sunday through Thursday nights to reduce the inconvenience to
the public.Beginning on Sunday, March 29, 2009, the Water Department will be flushing
hydrants in the North Akron area.
The North Akron area is bounded approximately by:
- City limits to the North
- Evans Ave to the South
- City limits to the East
- Creighton Ave to the West
Beginning on approximately Wednesday, April 1, 2009, the Water Department will be
flushing hydrants on various dead-end water mains throughout the City and JEDD areas.
As discoloration to water is likely to appear, we would appreciate any and all radio
and television announcements and newspaper articles so as to alert the water users and the
traveling public. In particular, we urge the water users to check their cold water for
discoloration prior to drawing water for cooking and for use in automatic washers and
dishwashers. If discoloration is found, the water user is advised to discontinue use until
water clears. Customers can call our automated phone system to get a nightly update on
streets that are to be flushed by dialing 330-375-2554, selecting Frequently Asked
Questions and following the prompts. Water customers can also log on to www.ci.akron.oh.us and select News Releases to get
the latest hydrant flushing updates. Should the water user have any questions or need
assistance, they are advised to call 330-375-2420.
