(01/29/09) - As the city of Akron is under a
Snow Parking Ban notice until tomorrow evening at 6 p.m., the Citys communications
office is issuing a reminder of what snow parking bans mean.Snow parking bans are
issued for the purpose of the publics safety and the efficiency of snow clearing
efforts on city streets.
The police department or the service director will implement snow parking bans in a
couple of different ways.
- Parking bans are immediately effective when two inches of snow has fallen on streets
marked with red signs indicating they are considered to be Snow Parking Ban streets.
- The City also issues snow parking bans that will include other streets, as needed, and
makes those announcements through its web site and local news outlets.
When a snow parking ban is announced, it is best that all cars be removed from parking
spots on city streets, regardless of whether city crews are plowing main roads or
residential side streets.
Cars not moved from street parking spots are subject to being towed.
Akron snow removal teams appreciate adherence to the snow parking bans. "Wed
like to remind citizens that this is for their benefit, as well," said Public Works
Manager Paul Barnett. "Streets free of parked cars are critical if we are to get them
plowed in a timely manner."
