(01/29/09) - With primary routes relatively
clear, City snow removal teams began the job of handling residential streets a few hours
ago. Deputy Service Director John Valle says the most highly traveled routes (including
hills) are nearly done."The primary and secondary routes are in pretty good
shape," said Valle. "From curb to curb they are 90 % complete."
This morning, teams began clearing snow from the citys 102 residential routes
that comprise Akrons 62 square-mile footprint. Valle says that by noon today snow
removal trucks will be concentrating on residential neighborhoods.
"An unfortunate side effect of residential street plowing is that snow is pushed
onto driveway approaches," said Akrons Communications Director Mark Williamson.
"We do have a program, though, to assist our disabled residents when this
occurs."
For more information on this program, call 330-375-2311 from any telephone, or simply
call 3-1-1 from any home phone inside the city of Akron.
The snow parking ban remains in effect until Friday evening.
