Portage Path and Brown Street to Reopen

(09/26/08) - Portage Path between Treaty Line Road and Merriman Road will re-open to traffic Saturday, September 27, 2008 following the Akron Marathon (approximately 12:00 noon).

Portage Path was closed on April 28, 2008 due to the potential for a slope failure. The west slope of the street was stabilized and a new street reconstructed. The project included new curbs, pavement, barrier wall, sidewalk and street lights.

The construction was completed two months ahead of schedule by Vito Gironda Construction at a bid price of $865,000.

Brown Street between Thornton Street and Exchange Street will re-open to traffic Saturday, September 27, 2008 following the Akron Marathon (approximately 10:00 a.m.).

Brown Street was closed on May 5, 2008 for reconstruction and beautification in support of the Spicer Village development. The project included new curbs, pavement, sidewalks, decorative crosswalks, street lighting and relocating utilities underground.

Construction will continue on Power Street between Spicer Street and Brown Street until November. Local access is permitted.

The construction is being performed by the Kenmore Construction Company at a bid price of $2.1 million.
