Judith Isroff Park Dedicated

(09/15/08) - A new city park will be dedicated on Friday, September 19, 2008 on the triangular shaped parcel of land located where White Pond Drive and West Market Street intersect. If you were expecting another Flowerscape from Keep Akron Beautiful you might be pleasantly surprised by the undulating mounds, pathways and low stacked stone walls that traverse the park, not defined by blooming annuals. The over 58 new trees are all part of a serene, simple and sophisticated landscape design created by landscape architect, John Vittum. The landscape plan was executed by contractors, Vizmeg Landscape, Inc., and Diamond Blade Landscaping, with the support of the Engineering Department of the City of Akron.

The group’s vision for a simple memorial park features a dramatic appearance, especially at night, due to dramatic up-lighting on the stone walls and trees. Judy’s friends wanted a park that looked good through all the changing seasons. FirstEnergy donated the dirt to create the parks’ new topography from their headquarters project being completed down the road on White Pond Drive. Naragon Irrigation provided the installation of the sprinkling system in-kind to keep the rolling lawn green.

Members of the Isroff family will join Mayor Don Plusquellic, his cabinet, park donors and the Isroff Park Task Force to dedicate the park which features black metal benches, a stone patio and receptacles for trash and recyclables. Donations for the Judith Bear Isroff Park endowment fund are still being accepted from the public through the Akron Community Foundation for the on-going maintenance of the public park. Task Force members include: Jody Bacon-Myrna Berzon-Francis Buchholzer-Paula Davis-Susan Gippin-Patty Graves-Bill Hahn-Jon Malish-Christine Jonke-Polly S. Kaczmarek-Mitchell Kahan-Sue Kruder-Frank LaRose-Bette Leff-Karen Nackes-Jane Rogers-Arlene Rossen-Sandra Smith-John Vittum.
