Mayor Honors Officer
Ford |
| (08/05/08) - Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic
today honored Officer Lloyd Ford for Distinguished Service for his actions on July 24.
Officer Ford was working at the Akron Arts Expo at Hardesty Park when he noticed an
elderly woman having trouble breathing. Eighty year old Helen Meisner was choking on food,
and Officer Ford quickly employed the Heimlich maneuver and dislodged the obstruction.
Helen was examined by EMS squad members shortly after that and is doing fine.
Mayor Plusquellic, in honoring Ford said, "Officer Ford acted without hesitation,
used his training and saved a life that day. For that, we present him with the
Mayors Distinguished Service Award." Ford is also the 1999 winner of the Akron
