The Akron Art Museum and METRO RTA Partner for Community Benefit
Riders Can Now Save $2 Off Museum Adult General Admission

(06/10/08) - The Akron Art Museum and METRO RTA, the public transportation provider for Summit County, have added one more benefit that demonstrates why it is smart to ride METRO.

METRO riders can now enjoy $2 ridership discounts at the museum. With a valid METRO ID, METRO riders will now receive a 28% discount off the museum's adult general admission price. They’ll pay $5 instead of $7 when presenting their 31-Day passes, Northcoast Express, 10-ride tickets, METRO SCAT 10-Ride and the Ohio Works First pass.

Other benefits have also resulted from the Akron Art Museum’s ongoing partnership with METRO. Both worked closely together in obtaining nearly $600,000 federal funds for improvement to Market Street and High Street that included a new bus turn out, sidewalks, improved travel lanes and landscaping. "Access to the museum by METRO buses, school buses and motor coach has been greatly improved by this project," said Museum Director and Chief Executive Officer Mitchell Kahan. "Additionally, I am delighted that museum staff were able to assist METRO on the design and layout of METRO’s new public art space in the downtown transportation center now under construction."

"METRO is pleased that the Art Museum is willing to work with us on so many projects, especially the ability to give our riding customers a discount," said METRO Executive Director Bob Pfaff. "What a great benefit for being a METRO transit rider."

The museum is also part of METRO’s FREE Summer Downtown Loop. The loop leaves Northside and travels to the zoo, area restaurants, Lock 3 and the Akron Art Museum.
