NEIGHBORHOOD PARTNERSHIP GRANTS BESTOWED

(05/31/07) - For the ninth year, the City of Akron and the Akron Community Foundation continue the Neighborhood Partnership Program (NPP). This year 45 grants totaling $196,522 are being awarded so neighborhood-based organizations may cleanup vacant lots in the neighborhood, provide tutoring, mentoring and after school programs for children.  2007 Awards (12k pdf)

In 1999, Akron Community Foundation joined the City of Akron Department of Planning and Urban Development in the Neighborhood Partnership Program, a grant plan for community revitalization projects initiated and operated by neighborhood organizations.

Approximately $200,000 of City of Akron and Akron Community Foundation funds are available to neighborhood based organizations annually. A requirement is that neighborhood organizations must match the NPP grants with in-kind volunteer services, as well as cash contributions.

Jody Bacon, president of the Akron Community Foundation said, "The generosity of our contributors has made this possible for nearly a decade now, and it has made a wonderful difference in the quality of life in this community."
