TRUSTEES APPROVE NAME
CHANGE FOR
west hill BRANCH LIBRARY
Location will be known as Highland Square Branch Library
when reopened in July 2007 |
| (03/30/07) - The Board of Trustees of the
Akron-Summit County Public Library voted yesterday to rename the West Hill Branch Library,
currently under construction at 807 W. Market St., to the Highland Square Branch
Library. The change would be in compliance with the Boards policy of naming
branch libraries after geographical areas and will be effective with the opening of the
new library in July. "The name change to Highland Square is more
contemporary," said library director David Jennings.
The Board of Trustees approved a variety of name changes for branches and their meeting
rooms in July 2003. Four branch libraries Firestone Park, Odom Boulevard, Northwest
Akron and North Hill were renamed at the time.
Construction for the new building will be paid for by
taxpayer funds generated by the Librarys building improvement plan issue approved by
voters in November of 1997. The bond issue has funded the expansion or replacement of 15
of the systems 17 branches, and funded the expansion of the award-winning Main
Library in downtown Akron.
