The City,
as part of the Highland Square redevelopment, began construction on Market between Portage
Path and Casterton Avenue August 9, anticipating completing the work in late-December. As
of this morning, the work is done and all on-street parking in Highland Square is open and
available once again.
The work involved in this project included:
- Construction of a 16-inch water main on W. Market Street.
- Relocation of the 8-inch water main from N. Highland Avenue west to a new utility
easement.
- Removal of the existing brick crosswalks at N. Highland Avenue and construction of a new
brick crosswalk at the new entrance to the library and retail complex.
- Resurfacing of W. Market Street from Portage Path to Casterton Avenue.
- New pavement markings that include a new center turn lane and revised parking layout.
Construction will continue on the new parking lots north of W. Market Street that will
add an additional 180 parking spaces in Highland Square This work is scheduled to be
completed before the end of December.
A landscaping contract will be underway in the spring which includes landscaping the
parking lots, buffering the nearby homes and new street trees.
