A hot water tank two floors above
Akrons Department of Taxation has forced the closing of the tax offices for at least
today. On the 10th floor of One Cascade Plaza downtown, the office sustained
significant water damage sometime over the weekend when, Director of Taxation Ed Cole
says, a hot water tank in an office on the 12th floor relieved itself of some
or all of its contents."Computers are damaged, the floor is soaked and ceiling
tiles are falling," said Cole Monday morning. "We have given everyone the day
off."
Thirty seven employees of the City of Akron work in the affected office, which will be
professionally cleaned today. Whether it will be ready for workers to re enter tomorrow,
wont be known until later today.
Cole says the City will grant extensions to anyone who had a tax deadline today and is
unable to transact business with the Department of Taxation.
Cascade Plaza Associates manages the property.
