Mayor Don Plusquellic and City Council President Marco
Sommerville are joined in the groundbreaking for the Helen Arnold Community Learning
Center. The center will be joined with the new headquarters for the Akron Urban League,
whose Executive Director Bernett Williams is pictured on the far left, next to Dr.
Sylvester Small, superintendent of Akron Public Schools. To his left is Cathy Lee,
daughter of the late Helen Arnold. Mayor Plusquellic stands next to her accompanied by
three children from the nearby Edgewood Homes community, Sommerville, School Board
President Paul Allison and Jeff Tuckerman of the Ohio School Facilities Commission. The
groundbreaking was held August 23 for the new school and Urban League facility on Vernon
Odom Boulevard near Rhodes Avenue. |
