The Akron Health Department has received a
limited number of additional flu vaccine. Persons who are part of one of the following
high-risk groups are eligible for this vaccine:
- Persons who are age 65 or older
- Persons between the ages of 2-64 who have chronic medical
conditions which put them at great risk for complications from the flu (check with your
personal physician to find out which conditions fall into this category)
- Pregnant persons
- Household contacts of infants less than 6 months old
These flu vaccines will be available by appointment only.
The vaccines will be given at the Rolling Acres Mall at the HealthWise office, located on
the lower level near Kaufmann’s. If you are eligible for this flu vaccine, you can
make an appointment by calling 330-375-2960 Monday through Friday between 8am and 4:30pm.
Remember, this supply of vaccine is very limited, so call for an appointment as soon as
possible.
For those not eligible for the flu vaccine, remember that
prevention is the best defense against the flu. Thorough hand washing, avoiding touching
your hands to your eyes, nose, or mouth, and staying away from persons who are sick are
all effective steps you can take to protect yourself from the flu. |
