The Akron Health Department will be providing
flu vaccinations at a flu shot clinic to be held at the Morley Health Center, 177 South
Broadway in downtown Akron, on Friday, October 29th, 2004. The flu shot clinic
will begin at 9:30am and will be open until 4:00pm or until the available supply of
vaccine is exhausted. We have over 1200 doses available for administration on October 29,
but we do expect to use this entire supply before the end of the day. Due to the limited
availability of vaccine at this time, we are asking that only persons in the following two
categories come to this clinic:
- persons age 65 years or older
- persons age 2-64 whose chronic medical conditions make them especially vulnerable.
Persons with chronic medical conditions should check with their personal physician to
learn if they are eligible for flu vaccine under Centers for Disease Control guidelines
The Akron Health Department clinic on October 29 will be serving only Summit County
residents. All who come to the Morley Health Center on October 29 for a flu shot are asked
to bring proof of Summit County residence, such as a drivers license or utility
bill, with them. Persons over age 65 are asked to bring proof of age, such as a Medicare
card or their drivers license. Persons who cannot verify Summit County residence
will be referred to one of the other Summit County sites.
The cost for the flu vaccine will be $16. For Medicare recipients, this is covered by
Medicare Part B. Other insurances which can be used to pay are Railroad Medicare,
SummaCare Secure, Medicaid, SummaCare Medicaid HMO, and CareSource Medicaid HMO. No one
will be denied vaccination because they are unable to pay.
Parking at the Morley Health Center is limited. The Morley parking deck charges 75
cents per half-hour. Parking may be available at other parking decks and structures in
downtown Akron, but all charge for parking.
Three other clinics will also be giving flu shots on October 29th to Summit
County residents who meet the age and/or chronic medical condition criteria:
