Akron Health Department Message: Update on
Flu VaccineThe Akron Health Department is aware and concerned about news reports
regarding a shortage of flu vaccine. We are closely monitoring the situation and want to
be consistent with the best guidance from federal and state authorities. We are
re-evaluating clinic opportunities to provide the best service to the people of Akron. We
expect to announce clinic information within the next week. We will be providing the flu
vaccine for the following high-risk groups:
Children from 6-23 months old
Adults age 65 and older
Persons age 2-64 who have chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, heart and lung
conditions, asthma, kidney disease, or weakened immune systems
Pregnant women
If you have a chronic medical condition, please check with your physician to find out
if you should get a flu shot. Persons coming to scheduled flu shot clinics may be asked
for information verifying high risk status such as age or medical conditions.
Based on current recommendations, vaccine will not be available for healthy people
between the ages of 2-64 years old.
Please check local newspapers, radio stations, TV stations, or the City of Akron
website www.ci.akron.oh.us for announcements about upcoming flu shot clinics.
