This morning, the mayors
of Ohios 6 largest cities joined together in supporting the efforts of Senators
Clinton, Schumer, and Mikulski, to amend the Presidents supplemental appropriations
request to increase homeland security assistance for cities and to get the money to cities
more quickly.
"The amendment would boost homeland security funding for cities
from $1.4 billion proposed by the Administration to $3.58 billion. For Ohio cities, that
would mean an increase from $57 million to $92 million.
Their amendment would also require that states disburse new homeland
security assistance to local governments within 30 days, based on population.
We are united in our support for our troops fighting abroad. Congress needs to step up
to the plate and demonstrate equally strong support for our troops at home our
police, fire, and emergency medical personnel in our cities.
