AND CEDARWOOD AGREE ON DEVELOPMENT OF GHENT ROAD PROPERTY |

The City of Akron is a step closer to developing nine-plus acres of land along Ghent Road north of Smith Road. The City and Cedarwood Century Park Associates, L.L.C., have agreed to terms of a sales agreement. The land purchase of approximately $650,000 would allow for construction of 100,000 square feet of new office space and parking just north of the new FirstEnergy office building. It will be the last site in the Ghent Road Office Park to be developed. Cedarwood and its affiliated companies Tri-C Construction, Cedarwood Architectural Inc., and Riverview Management Inc. along with some offices of FirstEnergy Corp will be the first tenants to occupy the space. Cedarwood will lease out the balance of the building within three years of completion. Cedarwood Century Park Associates has agreed to use its best efforts to base a minimum of 200 persons, employed by the corporation and/or its tenants, in the complex. Groundbreaking is expected later this year with occupancy scheduled by the fourth quarter of 2001. Mayor Don Plusquellic talked about the agreement at a morning news conference today, saying, "When we purchased these properties on Ghent Road nearly 12 years ago, our plan was to give Akron companies land to grow and an opportunity to stay here in Akron. Im pleased Cedarwood has selected this site for its offices." Cedarwood President Anthony Petrarca said, "We developed the Sterling property here several years ago and have always believed this is a wonderful area for investment. We are pleased to develop this last parcel within this office park." The Planning Commission at its September 8 meeting will consider the agreement. If approved, it will go before City Council September 11.
