Department web page, home of one of the first fully motorized fire departments in the U.S.
The city of Akron is located in northeast Ohio and covers an area of 50 square miles and a
population of 217,000 residents, with an industrial and service-based economy. We are a
department of 380 (authorized 400) uniformed personnel and a support staff of 28. The
department has 13 fire stations, each manned by four firefighter/medics who respond to
either medical or fire calls. We are confident you will find information at this site to
be easily accessible and reliable, interesting and useful.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to improve the quality of life within the community through a
well-trained fire fighting force inclusive of technical rescue and hazardous materials
mitigation, highly skilled emergency medical service personnel, and an excellent fire
prevention and public education program.
We will accomplish our mission with a high regard for the safety and health of our
personnel, a knowledgeable training staff, a strong support staff, and the solid support
of our citizens and local government.
