RACERS ANNOUNCE 1999 WPF SCHEDULE
Season to open at home on May 13 and will extend to the end of August

     AKRON, OH ¾ The Akron Racers announced today their 1999 Women’s Pro Fastpitch (WPF) schedule consisting of 66 regular season games beginning May 13 at Firestone Stadium against the Virginia Roadsters.

     Akron has two pre-season games in Virginia on May 7-8 and 33 home games consisting of seven Thursday through Sunday series and a two-game series to end the season. There will be three Saturday single-admission doubleheaders at Firestone Stadium: June 5 vs. Georgia Pride, July 17 vs. Carolina Diamonds and Aug. 7 vs. Georgia Pride.

     After opening with Virginia, the Racers close May on the road in Carolina and Tampa Bay before returning home on June 3 to begin consecutive home weekend series against Georgia and Durham. The rest of June has Akron traveling to Carolina before ending the month with Durham back at home from June 24-27.

     The Racers will be on the road for both the Memorial Day and Independence Day holidays.

     July begins with road series at Tampa Bay and Virginia. The Racers return home for a July 15-18 homestand against Carolina prior to heading to Georgia. They end the month with a four-game stretch at Firestone Stadium hosting Tampa Bay from July 29-Aug. 1 for the only time in 1999. The 1999 WPF All-Star Game will be held either July 6 or July 13 at a yet-to-be-determined site and time.

     The following weekend the Racers will stay in Akron for a five-game series against Georgia before hitting the road for five games in Durham and two in Virginia. The 1999 WPF regular season concludes with two games against Virginia on Aug. 21-22 at Firestone Stadium.

     In a change from the previous two seasons, the WPF playoff format will change from split-half champions meeting for the title to a three team setup matching the 2nd and 3rd place teams in the WPF Championship Semifinal on Aug. 24-25 the winner will face the regular season champion in the 1999 WPF Championship Series on Aug. 27-28.
