| (October 7, 1998) Mayor Don Plusquellic and Precious Ivery kick off Akron's lead abatement program in front of a south side home. Ms. Ivery and her children are beneficiaries of the program which utilizes a $2.5 million dollar federal grant to remove hazardous lead from homes in lower income neighborhoods of the city. The house in this photo is being cleared of lead and will soon be used as a safe house for families to stay in while their homes undergo lead abatement. The program is being administered by the Akron Health Department. | |
