Akron Zoo Opens Tiger Valley |

Hi. My name is Sobat. I'm a Sumatran Tiger and one of the new residents of the Akron Zoo. My fellow tigers, lions and bears and I saw quite a show here a couple of weeks ago. Your mayor, I believe his name is Don Plusquellic, came here with a bunch of people from the newspaper, radio stations and television stations to take our pictures and talk about our new home, Tiger Valley. A nice man named Bruce Ford, your city photographer, snapped this picture of me. Pretty nice, eh? The lady who runs the zoo, Pat Simmons and her staff raised the money, almost $2 million, to build this brand new home for all of us. We love it here. And a couple of days after the Mayor was here, there were thousands of people here visiting us. My friends and I really enjoyed seeing all of the kids who stopped by to press their noses against the glass and say hello to us. Many of us are from vanishing breeds. That is why we appreciate so much what zoos like ours are doing to educate people on conservation issues. For us, it's a matter of life and death. We hope you will support the Akron zoo and our new home, Tiger Valley. Maybe more of our friends will then be able to find nice homes like this. Thanks, and we hope to see you soon! Sobat the Tiger |
