Summary of Activities | Park Sites (39k pdf)

SUMMARY OF ACTIVITIES

  1. General Parks Maintenance
    1. Tractor/trim mowing at 74 sites weekly.
    2. Infield maintenance and reconstruction at 74 City fields and 33 Board of Education fields.
    3. Trash collection at 45 summer sites and 58 winter sites.
    4. Summer Lunch Program trash collection.
    5. Leaf removal/mulching at 41 park sites.
    6. Maintenance of soft surface (pine bark mulch) areas in 47 tot lots.
    7. Contract maintenance (mowing, litter control, trash collection) for approximately 130 parks, traffic islands and miscellaneous City properties.
    8. Tennis/basketball court cleaning at 22 sites.
    9. Parking lot cleaning/grading at 35 sites.
    10. Daily infield preparation and site cleaning at Firestone Stadium and Summit Lake.
  2. Forestry
    1. Maintenance of trees on curb strips, parks and City rights-of-way.
    2. Traffic safety tree trimming (annual stop sign inspections).
    3. Storm damage clean up.
    4. Contractual tree and stump removal.
    5. Contractual tree trimming.
    6. Contractual wood waste grinding/mulch generation.
  3. Landscaping
    1. Fertilization, aerifying and overseeding of athletic fields (7 downtown parks/86 fields).
    2. Herbicide application to control weeds.
    3. Planting and maintenance of flowers.
    4. Trimming shrubbery and cleaning/mulching plant beds at 53 sites.
  4. Snow and Ice Control
    1. Provide drivers and trucks for salting and plowing operations on City roadways (9 Primary routes and 5 Secondary routes).
    2. Provide salting and plowing services for 12 Community Centers.
    3. Provide Snow and Ice Control for downtown parks (Cascade Plaza, Charles Goodyear Park).
    4. Contractual snow plowing at Canton Road, Kenmore Boulevard and West Market Street Off-Street Parking Lots.
  5. Install Banners on Downtown Walk Bridges
  6. Hang Christmas Decorations (Bucket Truck Work)
    1. Lock III.
    2. Main Street, High Street and Broadway.
    3. Kenmore Boulevard.
    4. Braewick Circle.
    5. Firestone Park.
    6. Charles Goodyear Park.
    7. Municipal Service Center.
    8. Cascade Plaza.
  7. Parks Maintenance is divided into three Districts:
    1. West District – 1540 Copley Road (West Side Depot)
    2. North District – 960 Evans Avenue
    3. South District – 1436 Triplett Boulevard (Municipal Service Center)
  8. Each District has summer duties:
    1. Mowing: Tractors and trim crews mow each side of town, about 25 sites each week.
    2. Leaf Removal and Mulching: Mainly fall work.
    3. Tot Lot Mulching
    4. Cleaning of Tennis and Basketball Courts
    5. Landscaping and Herbicide Application
  9. Each District also has specialized work:
    1. West District – Construction
      1. Infield maintenance and reconstruction of baseball fields.
      2. Trash collection.
      3. Summer Lunch Program trash collection.
    2. North District – Landscaping
      1. Downtown Parks
        1. Lock I
        2. Lock II
        3. Lock III
        4. Charles Goodyear Park
        5. Cascade Plaza
      2. Major Landscaping Projects
      3. Majority of Special Event set ups
    3. South District – Forestry
      1. Tree maintenance on all curb strips and City park trees.
      2. Storm damage clean up.
      3. Any bucket truck/crane work.
      4. Firestone Stadium:
        1. Daily preparation of infields (including dragging and striping).
        2. Firestone Stadium Building Clean Up:
          1. Empty trash barrels.
          2. Clean stands and bleachers.
          3. Litter sweep daily (complete grounds).
          4. All bed/flower maintenance.
          5. Restroom clean up.
        3. Field preparation for all Akron Racers games (Monday through Friday).
