- General Parks Maintenance
- Tractor/trim mowing at 74 sites weekly.
- Infield maintenance and reconstruction at 74 City fields and
33 Board of Education fields.
- Trash collection at 45 summer sites and 58 winter sites.
- Summer Lunch Program trash collection.
- Leaf removal/mulching at 41 park sites.
- Maintenance of soft surface (pine bark mulch) areas in 47
tot lots.
- Contract maintenance (mowing, litter control, trash
collection) for approximately 130 parks, traffic islands and miscellaneous City
properties.
- Tennis/basketball court cleaning at 22 sites.
- Parking lot cleaning/grading at 35 sites.
- Daily infield preparation and site cleaning at Firestone
Stadium and Summit Lake.
- Forestry
- Maintenance of trees on curb strips, parks and City
rights-of-way.
- Traffic safety tree trimming (annual stop sign inspections).
- Storm damage clean up.
- Contractual tree and stump removal.
- Contractual tree trimming.
- Contractual wood waste grinding/mulch generation.
- Landscaping
- Fertilization, aerifying and overseeding of athletic fields
(7 downtown parks/86 fields).
- Herbicide application to control weeds.
- Planting and maintenance of flowers.
- Trimming shrubbery and cleaning/mulching plant beds at 53
sites.
- Snow and Ice Control
- Provide drivers and trucks for salting and plowing
operations on City roadways (9 Primary routes and 5 Secondary routes).
- Provide salting and plowing services for 12 Community
Centers.
- Provide Snow and Ice Control for downtown parks (Cascade
Plaza, Charles Goodyear Park).
- Contractual snow plowing at Canton Road, Kenmore Boulevard
and West Market Street Off-Street Parking Lots.
- Install Banners on Downtown Walk Bridges
- Hang Christmas Decorations (Bucket Truck Work)
- Lock III.
- Main Street, High Street and Broadway.
- Kenmore Boulevard.
- Braewick Circle.
- Firestone Park.
- Charles Goodyear Park.
- Municipal Service Center.
- Cascade Plaza.
- Parks Maintenance is divided into three Districts:
- West District 1540 Copley Road (West Side Depot)
- North District 960 Evans Avenue
- South District 1436 Triplett Boulevard (Municipal
Service Center)
- Each District has summer duties:
- Mowing: Tractors and trim crews mow each side of town, about
25 sites each week.
- Leaf Removal and Mulching: Mainly fall work.
- Tot Lot Mulching
- Cleaning of Tennis and Basketball Courts
- Landscaping and Herbicide Application
- Each District also has specialized work:
- West District Construction
- Infield maintenance and reconstruction of baseball fields.
- Trash collection.
- Summer Lunch Program trash collection.
- North District Landscaping
- Downtown Parks
- Lock I
- Lock II
- Lock III
- Charles Goodyear Park
- Cascade Plaza
- Major Landscaping Projects
- Majority of Special Event set ups
- South District Forestry
- Tree maintenance on all curb strips and City park trees.
- Storm damage clean up.
- Any bucket truck/crane work.
- Firestone Stadium:
- Daily preparation of infields (including dragging and
striping).
- Firestone Stadium Building Clean Up:
- Empty trash barrels.
- Clean stands and bleachers.
- Litter sweep daily (complete grounds).
- All bed/flower maintenance.
- Restroom clean up.
- Field preparation for all Akron Racers games (Monday through
Friday).
