FOOD AT LOCK 3 THIS WINTER TO HAVE LOCAL FLAVOR

(11/24/09) - A well-known Akron chef and restaurateur will be responsible for the food service at Lock 3 this winter.

Louis Prpich, owner of the newly-opened Chowder House Café on Chestnut Boulevard in Cuyahoga Falls will be providing his signature soups and sandwiches for the ice skating crowd at the 6th annual Holidayfest and Chriskindl Market.

"My daughters and I love the Lock 3 ice rink," says Chef Prpich. "Comfort foods are what ice skaters need, and we’ll have plenty of choices for them."

Prpich stepped-up to offer his services when the City of Akron requested proposals for operation of its concession stand for the winter festival at Lock 3, November 27 - December 31.

The Lock 3 Menu will include the same $4 Bratwurst sandwich that has been popularized over the previous five Chriskindl Markets.  Prpich will also add macaroni and cheese to the menu ($3) and bowls of his authentic chili, white bean chili, and clam chowder ($4). Hot dogs will be available for $2, and sandwich selections during Holidayfest will include Roast Pork, Hot Turkey, Wiener Schnitzel, and Portobello Mushroom ($5). Not all items will be available at all times during the festival, which runs Thursdays- Saturdays, 11am - 9pm; Sundays, 12 - 6pm. (Ice rink hours extend to 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays.)

"We’re looking forward to working with Chef Louis this year," says Dave Lieberth, Deputy Mayor and director of Holidayfest activities. "We know our skating families will appreciate his menu selections and the reasonable prices."

Chef Louis is known to Akron foodies from his time as owner and operator of the Grotto on Merriman and Akron Creative Catering, and the chef at The Office Bistro, Edgar’s at Good Park, Misto 1238, and Greystone Hall.
