(11/24/08) - Due to the earlier-than-usual
onset of wintry weather, the Ciy of Akron is modifying its leaf pick up schedule. "With so much
snow already on the ground, we recognize customers have been unable to rake their leaves
to the street," said Public Works Manager Paul Barnett. "We plan to resume the
existing schedule for wards 2, 1 and 9 beginning this Saturday."
Ward 1 is scheduled for December 2 and Ward 9 for December 5. The City continues to
pick up leaves that were raked out before the storms in wards 8 and 5.
Barnett figures that with rain predicted today, the snow should be less of a problem
over the holidays. With the snow minimized, customers should be able to rake their leaves
between now and their scheduled pick up date.
After crews have completed the second round of pick up, they will go back to wards 10,
5, 3 and then 8.
Barnett added, "We anticipate ward 10 beginning Monday December 8 and not
finishing Ward 8 until around December 21. We are committed to provide this service even
if it takes us into 2009."
Please note that these dates are tentative due to weather. More updates to come as the
weather changes.
