(04/04/08) - For the 10th year, the City of
Akron and the Akron Community Foundation continue the Neighborhood Partnership Program
(NPP). This year the city is funding 51 organizations with a total of $202,460 to
assist neighborhood-based organizations in cleaning up vacant lots in the neighborhood,
providing tutoring, mentoring and after school programs for children. In
1999, Akron Community Foundation joined the City of Akron Department of Planning and Urban
Development in the Neighborhood Partnership Program, a grant plan for community
revitalization projects initiated and operated by neighborhood organizations.
Approximately $200,000 of City of Akron and Akron Community Foundation funds are
available to neighborhood based organizations annually. A requirement is that
neighborhood organizations must match the NPP grants with in-kind volunteer services, as
well as cash contributions.
Jody Bacon, president of the Akron Community Foundation said, "This program has
been one of many bright spots in the work of ACF. And it is because of our generous
contributors. Neighborhood Partnership has made a wonderful difference in the
quality of life in this community."
