2008 City of Akron NEWS Releases
from the desk of Mark Williamson

EXTENDED HOURS MAKES IT LESS TAXING
CITY TAXPAYERS BENEFIT

(04/03/08) - Akron’s tax filing deadline is Tuesday, April 15. To assist Akron tax filers, the Income Tax Office will be open Saturday, April 12, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and both Monday and Tuesday, April 14 and 15 from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

For telephone assistance, taxpayers may call 330-375-2290 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays.

All Akron residents born on or before December 31, 1989 are required to file a city income tax return. Retirees whose only source of income is from Social Security, pensions, interest or dividends need only file a one-time exemption form with the Income Tax Division which is included with the individual form or can be downloaded online.

Virtually every Akron resident is able to file electronically at www.ci.akron.oh.us/1040. It’s simple and safe, and takes only five to 10 minutes to complete. All that is needed is the taxpayer’s Akron tax account number and Personal Filing Code (PFC) to E-File. For taxpayers who owe tax, payments can be made online when using VISA or Mastercard.

IMPORTANT: If a 2007 city tax return has already been filed, please wait until next year to try Akron’s online filing program.

Taxpayers may continue to use the traditional tax returns or may download a form from the Income Tax Division website if they so desire. They may also request forms by phone, mail or email.

The mailing address is: City Income Tax Division, 1 Cascade Plaza – 11th Floor, Akron, Ohio 44308. The office is located in the National City Center Building on the corner of South Main and West Bowery streets in downtown Akron. The email address is incometax@ci.akron.oh.us .
