The announcements, as part of LightsOut Akron, are the first commitments where offices will be turning off non-essential lights during daylight hours in recognition of Earth Day and as a statement towards energy conservation.

In addition, Copley High School has announced that it will be turning off non-essential office and class room lights from 8-9 a.m. as well and encourages other schools in the area to do the same.

Schools and workplaces will be turning off lights from 8-9 a.m. or other appropriate times.
