InfoCision foresees additional employment at a new office campus
of 400 more employees within 10 years.
"InfoCision had an opportunity to re-locate outside our city and our JEDD, and was
offered generous incentives by other municipalities who wanted these jobs in their
communities," said the Mayor. "I want to recognize the personal commitment by
Gary Taylor to keep his facility here to benefit all of us."
"I was born in Akron and have lived in the greater Akron area my entire life. I am
thrilled that we will be permanently establishing our corporate headquarters here, and
creating hundreds of new jobs that will economically benefit the area. My most sincere
thanks goes to Mayor Plusquellic, and Mayor Roth of Fairlawn for the partnership that made
this work," said Gary Taylor, chairman of InfoCision Management Corporation.
The company is one of the nations largest teleservice firms, specializing in
fundraising for nonprofit and Christian organizations as well as volunteer recruitment,
customer care and commercial sales. Taylor founded InfoCision in 1982.
Currently at 325 Springside Drive, the company wanted to re-locate and build a
campus-like environment to accommodate future growth. Growth there has averaged roughly
11% annually.
"After looking at a number of options to retain these jobs and accommodate
growth" said Plusquellic, "I suggested that perhaps the best plan for InfoCision
was to expand at its current location."
The expansion will coincide with planning already underway by the Summit County MRDD
Board, to decentralize its client services. To make the expansion possible, the City of
Akron and the Summit County MRDD (Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities) Board
have signed a letter of intent whereby the City of Akron will purchase the MRDD 7.92 acre
property at 340 N. Cleveland Massillon Road for $3.5 million dollars and the JEDD board
will provide a $1.44 million dollar zero-interest loan to finance the re-location of MRDD
operations to several new satellite locations.
MRDD officials say the purchase creates an opportunity for them to develop smaller,
community-integrated settings to deliver programs to the 150 adults currently served in
the Bath center. This new work and habilitation center model is the same as those
developed in Coventry Township and Twinsburg.
The letter of intent with MRDD is subject to the approval of the City of Akron, the
JEDD board, the county executive, county council, the MRDD board and the provision that
MRDD is able to find and equip suitable satellite facilities within an acceptable
timetable. Akron will then transfer the property to InfoCision, which will build a new
office facility on the site fronting Interstate 77.
"After much hard work by all involved, we are pleased to have finalized the
details for our new corporate campus," said InfoCision President and CEO Carl
Albright. "Mayor Plusquellics passion to help businesses flourish in Akron,
coupled with Gary Taylors desire to solidify InfoCision as a community partner, has
made this a reality. We believe this expansion reinforces our commitment to the Akron
community, to our world-renowned clients and most importantly, to our employees."
In addition, the City of Akron will provide performance financing, subject to required
employment levels, for InfoCisions purchase of 2.73 acres of property at 286 N.
Cleveland Massillon Road so InfoCision may complete assembly of its future campus.
It is proposed that the JEDD board, made up of Bath Township, Fairlawn, and Akron will
purchase InfoCisions current office building at 325 Springside Drive and sell it
upon InfoCisions vacating of the property.
"This agreement is a win-win for Akron, InfoCision and our JEDD partners,"
said Mayor Plusquellic. "We maintain the tax base for all parties, enable InfoCision
to address future growth needs and prevent disruption of the companys current
workforce.
