Association (AWWA), the authoritative resource on safe water, today kicked off National
Drinking Water Week, a celebration of our most precious natural resource. "Clean
water is essential to our lives and our lifestyles, every single day. National Drinking
Water Week is a chance for water utilities and the customers they serve to join together
and celebrate the immeasurable value of clean and safe water in our daily lives,"
said Jack Hoffbuhr, AWWA executive director.
Many utilities across North America celebrate The Wonder of Watersm
with their communities during National Drinking Water Week to remind them of the
importance water plays in their daily lives.
Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic said "Water is a precious natural resource and Akron
is fortunate to have an abundant supply of safe drinking water for our citizens and
neighboring communities. I encourage everyone to celebrate National Drinking Water Week,
May 6 through May 12. Our Public Utilities Bureau employees work around the clock to
ensure the water you drink is safe and meets or exceeds all federal and state drinking
water quality standards."
Akron Service Director Richard Merolla said "We have an educational display with
activity papers for children in our Utilities Business Office lobby. It is open Monday
Friday from 8:00 a.m. 4:30 p.m. The Utilities Business Office lobby is
located on the 2nd floor of the CitiCenter Building at 146 South High Street in downtown
Akron."
