(11/17/06) - Lock 3 Park's Holidayfest opens Friday, November 24 and
continues through December with a huge amount of events, entertainment and activities.
Look for updates each week-we'll be checking them off our calendar! From shopping at the
Chriskindl Market, to crafts for kids, to an enormous Countdown to First Night Calendar,
there is no shortage of family-friendly activities to put anyone and everyone in the
holiday spirit. Here's what's coming up at Lock 3:
Day-After-Thanksgiving Shopping Showcase at the Chriskindl Market
Friday, November 24, 12-5 pm
It's the busiest shopping day of the year...why go to a crowded mall or big-box store
when beautiful, unique items await at the Chriskindl Market? Eager shoppers get the first
chance to purchase one of-a-kind gifts and more during this shopping preview from 12-5 pm

Holiday Lighting Spectacular
200 South Main Street in downtown Akron (outside Lock 3 Park)
Friday, November 24
Live music and ceremony starts at 6:45 with show beginning at 7:00 pm
Kick off the holiday season as Downtown Akron comes alive with a holiday lighting
spectacular featuring music, dancers, show stopping fireworks-and of course, Santa Claus!

Countdown to First Night Calendar
Marking the thirty-eight days between Thanksgiving and the 11th annual First
Night Akron celebration on New Year's Eve, each day, view the dramatic and entertaining
unveiling of a 6' x 15' panel decorated by a local school or community group. The calendar
will cover the huge wall of the O'Neil's Parking Deck adjacent to Lock 3 Park. Click here for detailed press release. (pdf)
Kinderzone
New at Lock 3 this winter, the Kinderzone offers hands-on crafts and activities just
for kids. On Friday night, November 24, kids are invited to help create a portion of a
Chinese Dragon that will be featured in the Welcome Santa Parade on Saturday. Click here for a detailed press release. (pdf)
Celebrations of Diversity
Each Thursday at Lock 3 Park, celebrations highlighting different cultures will be
featured. On Thursday, November, November 30, the East Indian celebration of Diwali is
highlighted with a special activity in the Kinderzone from 5:30 - 6:30 pm as well as with
a Countdown to First Night Calendar banner and entertainment provided by The University of
Akron Indian Students Association.
Holidayfest Trolley
Lock 3 isn't the only place jam-packed with holiday activities-there is a ton to see
and do throughout Downtown Akron. Visitors can take the FREE Holidayfest trolley to access
event locations such as the Vertical Parade of Homes at Northside, The Akron-Summit County
