THE HEALING FIELD
OUR PATRIOTS REMEMBERED

The Healing Field - click for more photos.(08/21/06) - As part of Akron's commemoration of the fifth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, the All-American Soap Box Derby is creating the Patriot's Healing Field Flag Memorial. The field of flags will be displayed in Akron's Goodyear Heights Metropolitan Park September 8-11.

Those interested in honoring men and women served our country may purchase single flags and poles for $30. Corporate sponsorship ranges from $100-$5,000.  Citizens may sponsor a flag that will fly in the Healing Field dedicated to a favorite patriot.  The flag will have an attached ribbon and name tag. The living memorial is intended to fly as a patriotic tribute to the strength and unity of the United States.

The Ohio Army National Guard will be placing the flags over the 37-acre playing field of the park at 2077 Newton Street on Thursday September 7.

Mayor Don Plusquellic is encouraging people in Greater Akron to honor the heroes from this community.  "Akron and Northeastern Ohio have lost many, many brave young men and women in service to our country." said Plusquellic.  "I would very much like to see our service veterans remembered in the Healing Field."

Sponsored flags may be picked at Goodyear Metropolitan Park on September 12 after 10 a.m. or September 13 and 14 at the All American Soap Box Derby offices at 1000 George Washington Boulevard between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m.
