THE CITY OF AKRON and MAPS AIR MUSEUM
ANNOUNCES THE RETURN OF:
AERO EXPO 2006: DEFENDERS OF FREEDOM AIR SHOW

AKRON, Ohio - "Ohio’s Most Exciting Air Show" will again be coming to the Akron Fulton Airport this summer. Scheduled dates for the event are June 17-18, 2006.

T 6 Texan - click image to enlarge.The show will feature many aerobatic acts, military aircraft, commercial aircraft and fly-bys. The Horizon Blue Aerobatic Team and Firebirds Solo Aerobatic aircraft will perform both days. Michael Hunter, the only insulin dependent diabetic pilot will perform his "Flight For Diabetes" and be available for autographs. Many static display aircraft, including helicopters from our own Ohio National Guard, C-130’s from the USAF 910th AW Reserve and 179th AW will be on hand for a first hand look. The C-130 Hercules from the 179th AW from Mansfield, OH will also perform a tac demo both days.

SNJ-5 - Click image to enlarge.Fly-bys will include the B-2 Stealth Bomber (Sunday only), the F-117 Stealth Fighter, and a KC-135 Stratotanker (Both days) from the 171st ARW with an all Kent State University crew.

This year’s sponsors are ACME, Discount Drug Mart, Papa John’s Pizza, Castle Aviation, WONE, WAKR, WQMX, WKYC TV3, Coca-Cola, Gasser & Son Jewelers and Goodyear. Presale tickets will be available from all ACME stores, Discount Drug Marts, The Dusty Armadillo, 356th Fighter Group Restaurant and the MAPS Air Museum starting May 27th. Presale prices for adults is $10 and children (6-12) are $6. Children 5 and under are FREE with an empty Coca-Cola Product can.

Gates will open both days at 8:30AM. The show will run from 10:00AM to 5:00PM each day. The air show, which is the third largest in the State and draws approximately 40,000 visitors. The airshow recently was awarded honors at the "Zenith Awards" as the "Best Event in Summit County" two years in a row.
