The City of Akron Automated Meter Reading
(AMR) project has been successfully completed ahead of schedule. Honeywell, the
installation contractor, completed more than 81,500 installations in fewer than 24 months.
The AMR project included the replacement of all residential and commercial water meters
with units that can be read from outside homes and businesses, thus eliminating the need
to have meter readers enter each dwelling. The new process enables the City of Akron to
accurately read your meter each month eliminating estimated billing.
Customers experiencing any problems related to the installation should call
330-375-2440. If a water customer has not had a new meter and automated reading device
installed at home or in a non-industrial business, he or she should call the above number
to schedule an installation appointment. There is no cost to the customer for this work.
A representative from Honeywell, our installation Contractor, will still be working in
the area for the next few months to alleviate any installation problems that may be
reported.
The City of Akron has begun preliminary plans to begin a comparable AMR project
affecting industrial accounts, including all water meters larger than one inch. This work
is expected to begin later in 2006. Please check the city of Akron website (
