Plusquellic recently discovered a lump in his chest and was examined Tuesday at Akron General Medical Center. Physicians recommended that a biopsy be conducted at the earliest possible time.

On Wednesday, Plusquellic underwent an hour-long procedure during which physicians removed the tumor from inside his chest wall. The biopsy results showed that the tumor was benign and not malignant. The Mayor was given a general anesthetic during the procedure and was discharged from the hospital shortly thereafter. He rested at home Wednesday evening.

Plusquellic, president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, delayed his departure to the National League of Cities Conference where he will address some 4,000 delegates in a plenary session Friday.
