Banish Crime, Light up the Night
With a Crime and Bug Repellent Yellow BulbThe
City of Akron and the Community Relations Unit of the Akron Police Department is
partnering with local community groups to fight crime in our city during the 21st
Annual National Night Out Against Crime.
Residents are asked to show support of this initiative by
turning on a yellow outside light the night of August 3, 2004.
Akron residents who would like to participate can pick up a
free yellow light bulb at any of the City of Akrons 13 community centers, at the Akron
Police Department, Community Relations Unit, 217 S. High Street, Room 402 or at the
Customer Service Office, 1st floor of the Municipal Building, 166 S. High
Street. Light bulbs are also available at East Akron Community House, 550 South Arlington
Street and at the Mountain of The Lord Fellowship/Charisma Community Connections, 1477
Copley Road, in west Akron.
To receive your free yellow light bulb you must be an Akron
resident and show proof of residency. Only one light bulb per household.
On August 3rd turn on your yellow lights to
repel crime and also repel bugs all summer long.

Community Activities:
East Akron Community House is sponsoring a parade beginning
at 6:00pm and an Old fashioned Ice Cream Social until 8:00pm. For

In west Akron, the Mountain of the Lord Fellowship and
Charisma Community Connections will hold a rally starting at 6:30pm which will
include food, entertainment, community speakers and informational booths. This event will
kick-off a city-wide "Violence Free Zone" Initiative. All Neighborhood Block
Watch Groups are invited to wear your t-shirts and participate in a flashlight
