| City of Akron Awarding $500,000 to Social
Service Programs |
| Akron City Council has approved an award of
$500,000 in Community Development Block Grant Funds to be distributed among local agencies
to assist lower income residents. These funds come from an entitlement from the U. S.
Department of Housing and Urban Development. The grant awards will be made to 14
agencies for the following services:

Through the Community Services Program, the City is able to assist agencies providing a
variety of social services to the Neighborhood Development Areas.
Mayor Don Plusquellic said, "I cant say enough about the folks who work on
the front lines of social service in our community. We would be a much different community
without their dedication and commitment to others."
