MAYOR INVESTIGATES TRAFFIC STOP ON STAFFER
Late Thursday evening, a member of the administrative staff of the City of Akron was stopped by an Akron police officer. Jeff Fusco, deputy service director, was subsequently charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. At the time of the traffic stop, Fusco was driving a city-owned vehicle.

Fusco, 44, and his wife were out to dinner Thursday night until just before midnight when he arrived at city hall to pick-up his city car to drive home. He was stopped by the officer between city hall and his home.

Mayor Don Plusquellic issued a statement saying, "This morning, I have suspended Jeff Fusco from his employment with the City of Akron. The length of the suspension is indefinite. As is the case with all citizens, Mr. Fusco is entitled to the presumption of innocence until such time as he may be adjudicated as guilty of any offense. Once my investigation has been completed or the adjudication in his case is final, appropriate discipline will be imposed consistent with the facts and with city disciplinary actions that have occurred under similar circumstances."

The city of Akron’s policy with regard to the use of its vehicles prohibits an employee from driving a city-owned vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

Jeff Fusco has served as a deputy service director for the City of Akron since 1997. From 1994 to 1997 Mr. Fusco was an Akron City Councilman-at-Large, as well as the Council vice president and Planning Committee chairman. In 1986, he was elected councilman in Ward 10.
