THREE TOP WINNERS FOR 2003 TAKE PRIDE IN AKRON AWARD
In an effort to encourage the citizens of Akron to take pride in their city by preventing litter, recycling more, promoting responsible waste management and by beautifying their environment, Keep Akron Beautiful is presenting the Take Pride in Akron awards for the fifth year. The winner(s) were announced at Mayor Don Plusquellic's weekly press conference on Wednesday, October 15, 2003. Twelve nominations were received. Six judges met to select the residences, businesses, projects and/or organizations that best promote the program areas impacted by Keep Akron Beautiful's Mission Statement. The nominees were:

The top winners this year included the Landscape component of the 2003 Summer Arts Experience at Lock III Park, honoring Artists in Residence Rick and Dave Thomas of R.G. Thomas Landscape and Design. The Lehner Family Gardens of the Akron Zoo was also noted for its five theme gardens and Nature's View Education Center. Rounding out the top trio was the private residence of Jeff Chicatelli, who has converted a former West Akron church into his home, complete with pond and waterfall!

Keep Akron Beautiful develops and implements public education and community improvement programs on litter prevention, recycling, waste management and beautification to encourage citizens to take pride in Akron by participating in these activities.
