The City of Akron is relocating its office that handles birth and death certificates to
accommodate growing demands for space. At the end of business today, Friday, December 28,
2001, the Akron Health Department will begin moving the office of Vital Records from the
Morley Health Center, to 368 South Main Street. The new offices will open Wednesday,
January 2, 2002. Vital records kept by the City of Akron go back to 1909. The records have
been stored at the Morley Health Center since the late 1960s. The new offices are located
on the west side of Main Street between Canal Park and Exchange Street.
