The concrete recycling operation of the Eslich Wrecking Company at the former General Tire complex will be ceasing as part of an agreement reached between the City of Akron and General Street Business Park Ltd. Mayor Don Plusquellic announced the agreement at a morning news conference today saying the City would purchase roughly 25 acres at the complex at One General Street for future economic development use. Eslich is a member of General Street Business Park Ltd.

Mayor Plusquellic said this morning, "The City of Akron has been interested in this site for industrial property for a number of years. This agreement now gives us the opportunity to create more space for new jobs in our city while at the same time solving the concerns of the neighbors." While the effort to keep construction materials, such as concrete, out of our landfills is a worthy endeavor, this site was not suitable due to its proximity to neighbors.

The City will pay $1.5 million for the parcel, and Eslich has agreed to---at his company’s expense---perform site preparation activities so the soil or fill material is suitable for new building construction. If the company fails to receive Ohio EPA certification of the soil conditions, Eslich has agreed to remove all soils and fill materials and replace it with clean fill suitable for construction.
