| The National Park Service, City of Akron, Cuyahoga Valley Scenic
Railroad, and Akron Metro Regional Transit Authority hosted an opening event for the
Akron-Northside Station on Ridge Street in Akron on Wednesday, July 25 at 11:15 a.m. Approximately
sixty were in attendance including representatives of the organizations and media. After
brief comments from each organization, Mayor Plusquellic conducted his weekly press
conference on-site. Light refreshments were served during a showing of the new facility.

Mayor Don Plusquellic holds his weekly news conference July 25 to christen
the new passenger station for the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad in Akron. The pavilion
is at the corner of Howard and Ridge streets just north of downtown. Metro RTA buses pick
up rail passengers here and take them through downtown Akron.

passengers. Constructed in the same style as the other railroad boarding stations,
Akron-Northside Station was erected by the National Park Service to shelter visitors
departing Akron and journeying north aboard Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad through
Cuyahoga Valley National Park. This station is a critical link in the effort to extend the
route of Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad south to Canton. City of Akron will oversee the
next phase of this site plan, parking lot improvement.
Additional shelters are planned for Boston Mills, Independence, and Hillside Road.
