Mayor Don Plusquellic holds his weekly news conference July 25 to christen the new passenger station for the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad in Akron. The pavilion is at the corner of Howard and Ridge streets just north of downtown. Metro RTA buses pick up rail passengers here and take them through downtown Akron.

arrived around 11:30 a.m. to pick up the day’s passengers.

Constructed in the same style as the other railroad boarding stations, Akron-Northside Station was erected by the National Park Service to shelter visitors departing Akron and journeying north aboard Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad through Cuyahoga Valley National Park. This station is a critical link in the effort to extend the route of Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad south to Canton. City of Akron will oversee the next phase of this site plan, parking lot improvement.

Additional shelters are planned for Boston Mills, Independence, and Hillside Road.
