The City of Akron is closing the downtown innerbelt next week to accommodate the filming of a national television commercial. State Route 59 will be closed until Friday, July 13. The closing will encompass the stretch from Opportunity Parkway to North Howard Street (essentially the length of the highway).

Motorists are advised that all traffic on route 59 coming into downtown from I-77/I-76 will exit at Opportunity Parkway and follow the detour signs. Those approaching from the north side of downtown will be able to use Perkins Street/Martin Luther King Freeway up to the Howard Street/Main Street intersection and then follow detour signs to their destination.

All other motorists downtown who would normally use the innerbelt to exit downtown for northbound I-77/I-76 may take West Market Street to Rand Avenue (just west of Main Street) and enter I-77/I-76 past Wooster Avenue. To find southbound I-77/I-76, take Rand Avenue to just beyond Lakeshore Boulevard.
