| The Akron Zoo will hold their largest fundraiser of the year, January 27, 2001 at
Stonehedge. Snow Bowl runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with bowling times of 10 a.m., noon, 2
p.m. and 4 p.m. Zoo Board President Robert Berk made the announcement at Mayor Don
Plusquellics news conference January 3. Snow Bowl is a friendly, target score
bowling competition for local companies and organizations. Each 5-person team predicts
their score prior to the event. The closest team to their predicted score, wins! The cost
per team is $300.00 and includes the companies' name on the Stonehedge lanes for a month,
shoe and ball rental, and T-shirts for each member of the team. Also participating in the
Snow Bowl event are local celebrities and broadcast personalities. |

Mayor Don Plusquellic and his new friend Hermes, a red tail hawk who lives at the Akron
Zoo, meet at the mayor's news conference January 3, 2001. The mayor used his news
conference to kick off the 14th annual Snow Bowl bowling tournament to benefit the zoo. To
date, the tournament has raised $415,000 for the Akron Zoo. |
Stonehedge has hosted the fundraiser for the zoo since the beginning, however when people
come to bowl this year they might not recognize the 24-year old bowling alley. Stonehedge
just completed a $1.7 million renovation, which includes a new sports bar, Mexican
restaurant, video game room, banquet rooms and state-of-the art scoring system. Included
in the festivities at Snow Bowl is a Grand Raffle. This year's Grand Prize is an
Entertainment Package, including dinner and show at Carousel Dinner Theater, $100
certificate to Playhouse Square, bowling and dinner at Stonehedge and a family membership
to the Akron Zoo. The 1st place prize is Fitness Package including a one-month
family membership to the Health & Wellness Center and an official Budweiser golf bag.
The 2nd place winner will receive a Getaway Package, which includes an
overnight stay at Salt Fork and $150 in spending money. The last prize in the Grand Raffle
is dinner at the prestigious and elegant Piatto's in Akron.
In it's 13-year history Snow Bowl has raised over $415,000 for the animals at the Akron
Zoo. For more information on sponsoring a team or raffle tickets call the zoo at 375-2550.
