CREATE-A-CHRISTMAS FOR AREA FAMILIES Akron, Ohio... The Salvation Army invites Summit County organizations, businesses and churches to adopt local families in need through the Create-A-Christmas program. Participants are matched with a local family to donate food, toys, and household items to create a Christmas and ensure a bright holiday. Last year more than 200 families benefited from generous Create-A-Christmas donors. Families eligibility is determined through an interview process conducted by a caseworker. Akron, Ohio ... The 1999 Angel Tree program, sponsored by The Salvation Army will run from November 18 thru December 24 at Chapel Hill Mail and area Ames Department Stores. Donors are provided with gender, ages, and multiple "Angel Suggestions" of children in need. Toys may be returned to the "Angel Tree" location or The Salvation Army, 190 S. Maple Street, Akron. Toys purchased at any Kay Bee Toy locations are eligible for a 10% discount. Simply show the sales associate the Angel Tree card at time of purchase. Area businesses, organizations, and churches interested in helping with the "Angel Tree" program by sponsoring their own tree are invited to call Rebecca Baker at The Salvation Army, 330-762-8481. ###
HOLIDAY ASSISTANCE SIGN-UPS Akron, Ohio ... The Salvation Army will interview families in need of holiday assistance at 190 S. Maple Street. Interviews will be given November 29-December 1 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Food baskets will be given to all eligible families and toys will be given to children under the age of 13. Anyone interested in an interview, please call 330-762-8481 for fu instructions on what is needed to qualify. Clients are interviewed for special circumstances and need is determined by a caseworker. Appointment cards are given for the holiday distribution on December 18, 1999. ###

The familiar sound of The Salvation Army Christmas bells will begin at 26 Salvation Army red kettle locations county-wide at grocery stores and retail establishments November 18 thru December 24, Monday through Saturday. Funds raised through this annual campaign help provide programs and services to those in need. Volunteers are needed to help staff kettle sites. Arlington Street on December 18, 1999 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Approximately 1,700 families will be assisted with food baskets and toys for children under the age of 13. Clients are interviewed for special circumstances and need is determined by a caseworker. All appointments must be made in advance. Volunteers are needed for this project and can sign-up to help pack and distribute food and toys by calling Jodi Davidson at 330-762-8481. ###
