| STATE AWARDS GRANT TO CITY FOR INDUSTRIAL PARK PROJECT | ||||||||
Mayor Don Plusquellic announced today the Ohio Department of Development has agreed to assist the City of Akron in developing roadways and utilities to support the city's Massillon Road Industrial Park. The park is being built on City-owned land in the Springfield-Akron Joint Economic Development District (JEDD). The state will provide a Road work Development Grant of $250,000 to assist Akron in its estimated $3,640,000 project to prepare 116 acres of land for new manufacturing facilities. As the developer, the City will perform rough-site grading and construct an access road with full utilities at the site. Parcels are available for private industrial development beginning at $18,000 per acre. The state's offer of grant assistance will aid the City in making public improvements to serve Quality Mold Incorporated, an Akron tire mold manufacturing company. The company is currently constructing its new corporate headquarters and mold production facilities as the first project within the City-owned industrial park. Quality Mold will consolidate several facilities throughout Ohio at this new location. It will base 160 employees in the new facility and has plans to increase employment to 250 within five years. The City of Akron has also requested the assistance of Summit County in the covering the expense of the preliminary development. The City is requesting a $1 million deferred-interest loan for public improvements. County action on the requested assistance is pending approval by County Council. Mayor Plusquellic commented today, saying, "The Massillon Road Industrial Park will provide an attractive location for new manufacturing facility development. The State of Ohio's commitment is important for preparing this property for use in creating, attracting, and retaining jobs for Akron and Springfield Township." END |
